I am upset and offended by the recent development concerning Jack Ryan’s custody records and their unsealing. There are three people involved in those records: Ryan, his ex-wife and his 9-year-old. I cannot understand why we must drag an entire family through the mud.
Everyone who has been divorced knows the nature of the proceedings–they are devastatingly emotional and at times brutal. The airing of such he-said-she-said comments serves no purpose except making a tough situation for a family even tougher.
I applaud Ryan’s handling of this issue. I applaud the grace and class with which he has conducted himself, his strident attempt to shield his son and his ex-wife, and his strength in light of the unnecessary intrusion of the media. A person of such strength and conviction to do what is right definitely has my vote on Nov. 2.
