This is regarding the Tribune’s June 17 editorial “Al Qaeda, Iraq–and war.”

To paraphrase the conclusion of the editorial: We, as a nation, have a choice between dwelling on what Al Qaeda did or did not do with Iraq before the current war, or focusing on defeating Al Qaeda today.

Let’s remember that the Bush administration had much the same choice just after the Sept. 11, 2001, tragedy, and chose to divert our limited resources away from Al Qaeda’s worldwide network by foolishly invading Iraq on false pretenses.
