Cal State Fullerton, which started this season 15-16, beat mighty Texas 3-2 on Sunday to win the College World Series. All-American catcher Kurt Suzuki singled in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning. The Titans (who finished 47-22) won the best-of-three series 2-0.

Prime-time player

Cal State Fullerton starter Jason Windsor, who allowed five hits and struck out 10 batters, was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. Will he enjoy success in the big leagues? Here are some recent MOP’s who have starred in the majors:

Barry Bonds on Sunday hit his first home run in 13 games–not that he feels like he broke out of a slump. “I feel good every day,” he said. “I don’t have to explain it. As long as we win.”

Interleague HR leader

Philadelphia’s Jim Thome smacked his league-leading 26th home run Saturday against Boston. It was his 44th since interleague play began, the most in the majors.
