What interesting times we live in. Our Republican lawmakers approached Mike Ditka to run for U.S. senator, and the Illinois citizenry eagerly awaited his decision (“Ditka punts on possible GOP run for U.S. Senate; Search continues for new candidate,” Metro, July 15).
I can only imagine the public outrage if the McCaskey family had tapped the late Sen. Paul Simon or soon-to-be-retired Sen. Peter Fitzgerald for the job of Bears head coach.
This is a proud moment for the Land of Lincoln.
