This is regarding “Condo boom comes knocking; This old house in danger; Construction deals a blow to nearby home” (Page 1, July 22). The article included a comment from one Paul Smelansky, a supervisor for the demolition firm whose excavation work next to Victoria Dreksler’s caused severe foundation damage to her home and Dreksler’s emergency evacuation.
Smelansky’s callous and arrogant comment, “If I were alderman I’d tear down all these old houses . . . Old is old . . . Who wants to live in them?” shows complete lack of respect and compassion for a woman who was secure and happy in her 110-year-old home.
Shame on Smelansky.
And shame on any alderman who listens to such heavy-handed bullishness at the expense of a resident and constituent.
