Melvin E. Martens, age 81, of Dyer, IN, formerly of Tinley Park, IL, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2004. Survived by his wife Lillian, nee Laschover, of 57 years; two sons, Thomas (Linda) Martens of Gadsen, AL and William (Shelley) Martens of St. John, IN; one daughter Cynthia (Robert) Lamacki of Lansing, IL; six grandchildren, Kristina, Brian, Jennifer, Alan, Megan and Jonathon; four great-grandchildren; brother Calvin (Esther) Martens of Oak Lawn, IL; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Harold Martens. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 30, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Schroeder-Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Rd., Lansing, IL, with Irene Taylor officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Melvin was retired from Conrail as a conductor for 41 years.
