The curve of Lake Shore Drive, the waters of Lake Michigan and Chicago’s cityscape are among the dramatic vistas from the large windows of Sheridan Tower, a 22-story building in Chicago’s Edgewater neighborhood.

The 161-unit, blue and white building was constructed in 1960. Units are being updated as leases expire.

The one-bedroom model we visited has an ample view of the lake. But, regardless of the apartments’ exposures, the lake and cityscape can be seen from the building’s rooftop deck — the place to be on a summer evening to see city lights twinkle or later this month for a bit of the action of the Chicago Air & Water Show.

Access to the deck is through a solarium decorated with comfortable, flowery cushioned furniture. The building’s other amenities include a fitness room on the lobby level and bike storage room in the basement.

Large windows line the north and east walls of the 14-by-19-foot living room of the 18th floor corner model unit we toured, allowing views of the lake and cityscape and providing the perfect place to sip your coffee while watching the traffic curve along Lake Shore Drive and connect with Sheridan Road.

The view — shared by the adjoining 8-by-9-foot dining room — also includes the beach, accessed at Hollywood Avenue, and Kathy Osterman Park with its lawn and tot lot, which is just across the street.

The dining and living room are carpeted in beige. The 8-by-8-foot kitchen, entry foyer and bathroom, however, have tile floors and are where some of the unit’s recent updating is evident.

The foyer, which has two closets, has a new beige-colored, stone-like tile floor that extends into the kitchen. The kitchen, which has a shuttered door that connects to the dining room, is outfitted with new light oak cabinets and new white appliances, including a dishwasher and a built-in microwave oven. The building has a communal laundry room on the ground floor.

The bathroom, which is off the foyer, has a pale green and yellow tile floor, pale yellow wall tiles, a new light, oak vanity, a mirrored medicine chest and a white tub/shower.

The 13-by-14-foot bedroom is off the foyer and has beige carpet, a walk-in closet, a smaller closet for linens and a large window with a view to the south and east that includes the lake.

Stops for the CTA’s 147 express and 151 local buses, which travel to North Michigan Avenue and the Loop, are right outside the building’s door. The Red Line’s Bryn Mawr stop is about a 5-minute walk away as is a supermarket. A doorman is on duty at the building from 5 p.m to 1 a.m. daily.

Sheridan Tower has studio apartments that rent for $650 to $750; one-bedrooms for $800 to $1,200; and two-bedrooms with one bath for $1,200 to $1,500. There are two units available with the floor plan of the model we toured.
