This is regarding “A bulletproof Olympics” (Editorial, July 23). The editorial referred to the Olympics as ” . . . an event dedicated to bringing the world together through sportsmanship . . . ” There is little evidence to support this outmoded concept.

The Olympics is a commercial sports event that incites jingoistic, nationalistic fervor over a bunch of semiprofessional and professional athletes who must pass drug tests to verify they aren’t cheating.

Small wonder that so many tickets remain unsold.
