Carlyle E. Anderson, longtime Evanston resident, businessman and civic leader, died July 27, at age 94 at the Presbyterian Home in Evanston. His wife of 65 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Wyckoff, died in 2002. They had five children, three of whom predeceased them. He was born Dec. 21, 1909, in Erhard, MN, to Christian M. and Emma Paulson Anderson and spent his childhood in Henning, MN. In 1932 he received a degree in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota. He moved to Chicago in 1933 to become a member of Marshall Field & Co.’s last merchandising training program during the Depression. After leaving Fields, he headed the Chicago office of “Printer’s Ink”. Later he acquired the Monogram Glass Company and founded Meredith, Inc., a small mail order company. For many years he was a Director of The First National Bank of Evanston. His philanthropic activities included serving as a Director of Evanston Hospital (now Evanston Northwestern Healthcare) and co-founding and later serving as President of the University of Minnesota Foundation. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, The Glen View Club and The John Evans Club. Survivors include his two daughters, Judy Anderson of Chicago and Betsy Anderson (Charles) Fitzgerald of Bellevue, WA; three grandsons, Charles T. (Peggy) and Christian Carlyle (Meg Diaz) of Seattle and Timothy W. of Montana; five great-grandchildren; his nephew, Philip C. (Cheryl) Holm of Evanston and 11 other nieces and nephews. The family wishes to sincerely thank his devoted caregivers, Binta Moore, Annette Dacres, Beatrice Hights and Sondia Leonard. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 14 at 11 a.m. at the Elliott Chapel, Presbyterian Home, 3131 Simpson St., Evanston.
