Wayne Pacelle’s opinion piece on the horrors of animal slaughter rekindled my appreciation for vegetarianism.
As someone who hasn’t eaten meat for 10 years, I can attest that being vegetarian is an easy and delicious way to be kind to animals.
Pacelle references Upton Sinclair’s “The Jungle” as a seminal work in the movement to help animals slaughtered for meat.
Sadly, although Sinclair’s work is approaching the century mark, there is no doubt that its message still rings true today.
The atrocities committed by workers at the Pilgrim’s Pride facility are just one horrid example of how animals across the country are abused in slaughterhouses and factory farms.
As long as these gentle, sensitive animals are being slaughtered, businesses such as Kentucky Fried Chicken have a responsibility to ensure that they are protected from the egregious abuse that recently was exposed.
