It is startling to read that birds are still exempted from the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act nearly 50 years after its inception. With poultry making up 95 percent of the animals slaughtered in our country, it becomes glaringly obvious that this law is in dire need of an overhaul.
While we push for their basic right of a humane death, we can perform an even better service to birds by ending our consumption of them in the first place and choosing delicious, cruelty-free fare in place.
