More than 5,000 Chicago motorists who failed to display city vehicle stickers on their windshields have been ticketed since the July 15 deadline, City Clerk James Laski announced Wednesday.

Members of the clerk’s investigative unit issued more than 1,500 citations under new authority that allows them to enter public parking garages to look for scofflaws.

Another 3,661 tickets were written during routine street-enforcement efforts.

Scofflaws face a $120 fine and a $40 late fee when they purchase stickers.

GUN PLEA: Former Chicago Bulls forward Marcus Fizer pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge in exchange for probation during a hearing Wednesday in the Cook County Criminal Courts Building.

Fizer was charged with a felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in October 2002 after a loaded handgun was recovered from his sport-utility vehicle during a traffic stop on the Eisenhower Expressway.

After Fizer pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of unlawful use of a weapon Wednesday, Circuit Judge James Schreier sentenced him to 12 months of probation and a court fine of $2,500.

NOT GUILTY PLEA: A Chicago woman accused of drowning her two children in her Jefferson Park home in June pleaded not guilty Wednesday.

Abby Grason, 23, is accused of drowning Sandra Younan, 4, and Isaac Younan, 2, in her home in the 5600 block of West Carmen Avenue and then starting a fire in the microwave in her kitchen.
