DuPage County and the Chicago Area Transportation Study are seeking volunteers for a regional trail users count to be conducted Aug. 14 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., rain or shine.

Volunteers are needed to monitor the numbers of hikers, bikers, joggers and equestrians at locations along the Illinois Prairie Path in Elmhurst, Lombard, Warrenville, West Chicago and the Aurora-Naperville area; and at sites along the Great Western Trail in Winfield and Glen Ellyn.

Morning, mid-day and late afternoon shifts of about three hours each are available, and trail count forms and other supplies will be provided.

“All you need to provide is a lawn chair and your time,” said Deborah Jan Fagan, trail system coordinator for DuPage County.

Data will be compared with information gathered in a similar survey conducted in 2000 and will help assess trends in trail usage, Fagan said. For more information call Fagan at 630-407-6883.
