Northalsted Market Days

Want to feel old? Check out some of the blast-from-the-past bands playing at this massive two-day fest: A Flock of Seagulls at 8 p.m. Sunday; and Lady Miss Kier of Deee-Lite (remember “Groove is in the Heart”?) at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. Besides the continuous live music on three stages, this uber-fest also boasts some of the finest eye candy around. Young, old, fat, skinny: Everyone’s showing what they got. Forget what your momma told you–it is polite to stare. Find the complete music schedule on metromix.com.

11 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. $6. Halsted Street between Belmont Avenue and Addison Street, 773-868-3010.

SushiSamba Rio

If you’ve always been curious about this Japanese/Brazilian/ Peruvian spot, Friday’s bash would be a good reason to finally check it out. The party celebrates the opening of the restaurant’s rooftop lounge, featuring live music, drink specials and a great view of the city. 8 p.m. No cover. 504 N. Wells St. 312-595-2300.

Gold Coast Art Fair

An airbrushed painting of a unicorn jumping over a rainbow isn’t likely to make it into this 47th annual event–judges look over artists’ work before giving permission to display at the show. Browse paintings, sculptures, jewelry, glass, photography and more. Also features live music and food. Noon-6 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. Free. River North Gallery District, 800 N. LaSalle St. 847-444-9600.

Kankakee County Fair

Demolition derbies, rodeos, tractor pulls, dirt bike racing: It’s time to get out of the city and have a county fair experience. Where else can you check out livestock on display, whoop it up on crappy carnival rides and then head straight for the beer garden? 7 a.m.-midnight through Sunday. Free-$5; additional fees for grandstand entertainment. 4000 S. U.S. Hwy. 45/52, Kankakee, 815-932-6714.

Projekt Revolution Tour

The testosterone will be palpable when Linkin Park’s Projekt Revolution Tour hits Tweeter Center on Saturday. Other man bands on tap: Korn, Snoop Dogg, The Used, Ghostface and Less Than Jake. 2 p.m. $15-$46.50. 19100 S. Ridgeland Ave., Tinley Park, 312-559-1212.

Elvis Is Alive 5K

If the King were alive, we doubt he’d make it very far in this Lincoln Park race. After sweating it out, chow down on Fluffernutters to the tunes of Elvis impersonator Mark Hussman. Keep the party going by jumping a trolley to Goodbar (2512 N. Halsted St.). 4:30-5:30 p.m. registration; 6 p.m. race. Saturday. $25-$30. Fullerton Parkway and Cannon Drive, 312-587-3338.

Black Harvest Film Fest

Can’t get excited about this summer’s blockbuster movies? Check out this film fest, kicking off Saturday at Gene Siskel Film Center. From Kenyan romantic comedies to shorts by Chicago directors, all the movies were chosen to represent the black experience in film. Daily through Aug. 19. Free-$9. 164 N. State St. 312-846-2800.
