Turquoise Restaurant, open since spring, has allowed people to take fresh look at Turkish cuisine. Not content to let theme-park decor overwhelm your taste buds, they offer simple decor and upscale twists on this Mediterranean cuisine with starters like sogurme, a smoked eggplant with yogurt, garlic and walnuts toasted in crushed red pepper ($5.95); and lakerde, mackerel with marinated onion and arugula ($5.95). Entrees feature the lamb begendi, slow-simmered lamb with onions, cherry tomatoes and banana peppers served over eggplant puree ($16.95). Owner-chef Mustafa Guler is most proud of his onion kebab, a house original with hand-chopped lamb and beef, caramelized shallots, rosemary, and raisins braised in pomegranate sauce ($14.95). 2147 W. Roscoe St. 773-549-3523.
