Mike Downey is right to be exasperated at the praise heaped on Ozzie Guillen’s managerial skills (Tribune, Aug. 3) when he’s exactly two games better than Jerry Manuel was at the same point last season. But the same was true at the end of last season: Dusty Baker’s Cubs finished two games better than Jerry Manuel’s White Sox, yet Dusty was treated as if he were the second coming of the messiah and Jerry was a dead manager walking.
