Speaking as one of the barbarians who packed up her family in bathing suits to head down to Millennium Park, I would like to respond to Dean Miller’s letter.

We had a completely different experience with the so-called “unclean . . . eyesore” than did Miller. What I saw were delighted kids, relaxed families, happy senior citizens. People from all walks of life were having fun, conversing and making new friends.

More important, the kids were all playing together–all ages, all races, together, just being kids. I commend the park planners for taking children into account. There are too few (if any) places in the Loop for kids to romp and have fun. Providing families with a place to run around and cool off after visiting all of that hot, reflective metal, was a fabulous, thoughtful idea. The beautiful faces of Chicagoans, young and old, gazing at each other across the pool bring nothing but happiness to all. The pool of water reflects the faces, just as the faces reflect the joy being found below.
