JUDGING THE BEST LEG WORK
Cris Judd served as a celebrity judge Friday afternoon at North Avenue Beach for the Venus Divine Legs of a Goddess contest.
A bunch of local girls, wearing their shortest skirts and shorts, strutted their stuff down the runway for Judd and other judges. Judd told me that he was chosen to judge the competition because, “being a choreographer, I get to see some of the best legs in the business.”
Judd said that he was surprised when he heard ex-wife J.Lo got married to Marc Anthony back in June. When asked why J.Lo seems to need to be in a relationship, he suggested that she’s more of a person who needs unconditional love. And how did Judd handle his instant celebrity by marrying such a high-profile star? Judd said at first it was “overwhelming. But I put it aside and didn’t let it bother me.”
As for the competition, 19-year-old Kirsten Kim of Palatine won the “Legs of a Goddess” title along with $500. Kim now has a chance to win a $30,000 Goddess Giveaway. As for Judd, he’s giving acting a shot. Judd has been cast to star in two independent movies that begin filming later this year.
GOING BATTY: The nocturnal stars of “Batman Begins,” including Christian Bale and Gary Oldman, were busy shooting all night Friday.
Bale, who stars as Batman and his alter-ego Bruce Wayne, and Oldman, who plays police honcho Jim Gordon, shot a scene on the rooftop of a mostly vacant building on Wacker Drive and Franklin Street.
In the scene, Bale, dressed as Batman, scales a ladder onto the roof and runs across it. But it’s Bale’s stunt double who does the dirty work, jumping from the raised part of the roof to another landing on a bunch of cardboard boxes.
The whole neighborhood was lit up for the scene with lights at the base of the surrounding buildings, and the crew used smoke machines on the roof to enhance the mood.
PICKS: Here’s what I recommend for this week:
– This Friday at the Chicago Theatre is the annual Marshall Field’s Glamorama fundraiser event, featuring designer fashions and entertainers such as Patti LaBelle and Boy George. A slew of local celebrities are scheduled to attend, including Bill Rancic, Jeremy Piven, “Nip/Tuck’s” Kelly Carlson and “Queer Eye’s” Ted Allen. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. and tickets can be purchased at ticketmaster.com.
– There’s a new South Loop nightspot in town to check out. Wet nightclub dove into the Chicago night scene Thursday by throwing a party for the media and VIPs. The swanky new club features bartenders doing their best impression of Tom Cruise in “Cocktail,” Wet martinis and seductive videos played on walls throughout the club.
SIGHTINGS: John Mayer recently gave a surprise performance at Schubas Tavern. … The Peninsula Hotel was hopping with celebrities last week. Cher stayed at the swanky hotel early in the week, while Ben Affleck, touring the Midwest with John Kerry’s presidential campaign, checked in Tuesday night. And Dave Matthews, who stayed in Chicago while touring in Wisconsin, stayed there over the weekend. … Matthews also was spotted dining at SushiSamba Rio on Friday night. … Snoop Dogg gave a last-minute show at the House of Blues on Saturday night after his Tweeter Center concert with Linkin Park and Korn.
