James R. “Jim” Mitchell, was born December 31, 1938 in Bellaire, Ohio, and passed away at Riverside Hospital, Columbus, on Thursday, August 5, 2004. He graduated from The Ohio State University with top honors, earning dual music degrees in 1961. Jim taught instrumental music in the Findlay City Schools, Ohio, for 32 years. Jim was a gifted teacher and well known talented oboist. He has performed with countless orchestras throughout Ohio and the Chicago area. Jim was preceded in death by parents, Kenneth and Stella Mitchell, and is survived by sister, Sue; maternal aunts, Bessie, Georgianna, June and Marylou; and life partner, Rob Butler. Jim will also be fondly remembered by an enormous family of dear friends and colleagues. Memorial services in Findlay and Barnesville, Ohio, and Chicago, are as yet unscheduled. Interment will be in Barnesville, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Ohio State University School of Music Scholarship Fund.
