Mary Darrow Simonson, granddaughter of Clarence Darrow, America’s celebrated 20th century lawyer, was born on February 13, 1912 in Chicago, IL. She lived in Honolulu for more than 40 years and passed away on Aug. 6, 2004. Her husband, Burton E. Simonson, preceded her in death. Mr. Simonson was a Chicago building contractor who built their home, the third constructed on Koko Head, in 1963. She is survived by her sister, Blanche (Gordon) Chase of Wheaton, IL.; three stepchildren, Carol Fitch of Bethesda, MD, Richard (Florence) Simonson of St. Louis, MO and Donald (Marsha) Simonson of Albuquerque, NM; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. She was the loving aunt of Yoko Tokunaga of Honolulu; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jessie Darrow Lyon Johnston. The family thanks Dr. Kamil Masaki and caregivers, Susan Draculan and Venus Douglas for many years of loving care. No visitation.
