When notables come to Wrigley Field to sing, they also get to eat.

When Jim Frey came to town, the ex-Cubs manager got a first-hand look at the nets under the suites where he sat before serving as guest conductor. He also got a look at the dessert cart.

Did you have any dessert?

“I don’t like to eat before I sing. Today was the first time I sang since 1959. The ladies had some desserts.”

What dessert is your favorite?

“Vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate sauce.”

How about as a kid?

“Mom always made strudels and coffeecakes.”

Do you ever have a chance to cook?

“My wife can’t any more, so I do it. I fry everything, put a little salt and pepper on it then add some garlic. And still it all comes out tasting the same.”
