Why is it that all the reporters interviewing Greg Maddux after his 300th win tried to draw out some secret, conceited sentiment from him?
For once, someone who is a master of the game is not absorbed by his own arrogance. There’d be no ridiculous touchdown dances, no Sammy Sosa hops or finger-kissing stupidity if players had Maddux’s perspective.
Maddux should be plastered on billboards and posters for our youngsters to aspire to, but the irony, of course, is that you’d be hard pressed to get him to come in for a photo shoot.
I’d rather have my kids be like Maddux than be like Mike.
