I am surprised at the mail defending “Oh, for the open road; Driving down my peaceful tree-lined street, I have road rage but no other drivers to yell at” (Commentary, July 22), by Jeff Libman, bemoaning speed bumps. I was surprised that the Tribune would fill up valuable space with such a complaint in the first place.
I live on a street of three blocks with three stop signs. There are lots of kids on bikes and chasing balls into the street. People still speed, though it would be impossible to save more than a few seconds.
I feel really sorry for those who must get up one minute early to get to work on time. The real question is: Why are people in such a hurry? You will get to your final destination soon enough.
It is even worse on the freeway. Speeding, tailgating, multitasking, weaving in and out of traffic. (While stopped at a light I watched the man in front of me spit out his toothpaste!)
The end comes soon enough. If I get to my end before it is time because you were speeding, you may be sure that I will see to it that you have a large speed bump right in front of your bedroom.
