Craig Kilborn is leaving as host of the David Letterman follow-up “Late Late Show.”

Kilborn told Variety that the hosting gig was “easily the greatest job I’ve ever had,” but he decided to leave to write and produce other TV projects.

Although reports have said the split was amicable, The Washington Post reported Kilborn and CBS failed to reach a new contract deal after weeks of talks. He is expected to leave in a month.

There’s no word on who’ll replace Kilborn, but the rumor is that CBS could try to get NBC’s Conan O’Brien in place as a successor to Letterman when he retires.
