Dr. Harold M. Perlmutter, 88, of East Moline, IL, will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Dr. Permutter died Thursday, August 12, 2004, at his home. In lieu of flowers and statuary, memorials may be made to Black Hawk College. Dr. Perlmutter was born August 9, 1916, in Ann Arbor, MI, the son of Isidore and Rose (Budowsky) Perlmutter; he married Evelyn Cohn, October 26, 1948, in Denver, CO. Dr. Perlmutter, graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, served in World War II with the Second Armored Division under General Patton. As a young physician, he landed on Omaha Beach during the invasion, and was the first doctor to reach Berlin. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Silver Star and Bronze Star. He received mroe than thirty professional honors, including the “Doctor of the Year” public service award from the Illinois State Medical Society. Besides having practiced medicine and surgery for over 50 years in the East Moline area, he is known for his service to his community. He was one of the prime movers in the establishment of Black Hawk College, and founded the Academic Achievement Award for the area’s high schools. He was the first to perform surgery at Illini Hospital, whose founding was spearheaded by his wife Evelyn, and he continued to fund and update the hospital’s Perlmutter Library. He was a member of Temple Emanuel, Rotary Club, for 50 years and Short Hills Country Club, where he was an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Perlmutter of East Moline, IL; daughter Sandi Perlmutter of New York City, NY, son Dr. Jack (Beth) Perlmutter of Glencoe, IL; grandchildren Zachary, Isaac and Joshua; he is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret Newman.
