Offensive guard Rex Tucker dislocated his left elbow Monday afternoon and spent the night in a local hospital, mostly to manage the pain.

Doctors popped his elbow back into place, and X-rays showed no bone damage or apparent ligament damage, a source close to Tucker said. He will undergo an MRI Tuesday and could return as soon as three to four weeks. He plans to wear a protective brace to prevent hyperextension when he returns.

Tucker was executing a block on a running play during a non-contact, full-team drill when the injury occurred. He immediately grabbed his elbow, dropped to the ground and groaned loudly enough that his fellow linemen knew it was bad.

Members of the Bears’ medical staff sprinted toward Tucker as he lay writhing in pain and wrapped his elbow tightly to immobilize it.

Tucker hasn’t played in a regular-season game since Oct. 7, 2002, because of two separate leg injuries, and he becomes the fourth core player on the Bears to go down with a significant injury during training camp.
