In this season of bitter political debate, terrorists’ threats and economic uncertainties, we are indebted to Mayor Richard Daley for providing comic relief. His reasons for feuding with the Tribune and Chicago Cubs strike me as picayune and strained, but his statements do brighten grim days. I don’t know how he can win his argument because, as he says, the Tribune has all the ink in the world (and he is not quite Daniel Webster’s equal in oratory). Nevertheless, he has tickled our funny bone.
