It turns out you can have the best of both worlds. R. Kelly and Jay-Z announced Thursday that the supertour they put off two years ago is back on.
The 40-city Best of Both Worlds Tour kicks off Sept. 30 in Chicago, ew.com reports. The R&B hitmaker and star rapper originally planned the tour in 2002 to promote their album of the same name, but those plans crumbled when Kelly was arrested on child pornography charges.
Since then, Kelly has battled those charges in court and Jay-Z has retired from rapping. Until now. Kelly’s double-disc album “Happy People/U Saved Me” comes out Tuesday, and Jay-Z has made a surprise comeback.
“We want people to be genuinely shocked and awed,” Jay-Z said in a video statement. “We’re on a shock and awe campaign.”
Said Kelly: “We want to blow up the world. In any arena we go to, we want to give them something they’ve never seen before. You never know what [can] happen when me and Jay get on the stage–we’re spontaneous.”
Tour dates and venues will be announced soon.
