The Naperville City Council this week unanimously passed a new liquor license classification that allows patrons to bring bottles of wine to restaurants.
The concept, common among Chicago restaurants, is a first in Naperville and was brought to the attention of city officials after some restaurateurs operating without liquor licenses were told by liquor commissioners earlier this summer to stop allowing customers to bring their own wine.
The ordinance authorizes restaurants to permit patrons to bring in wine or similar beverages for consumption with a full meal from 5 to 11 p.m.
The bottle would be opened by a restaurant employee, and no opened bottle can be taken off the premises.
