Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I spent my first 25 years in Chicago, and though I’ve spent the last 10 living 1,400 miles away (in Fish territory no less) I will be a Cubs fan until the end. So these articles about fans booing Sammy Sosa hurt.

For goodness sakes, he has hit home runs prolifically, and if he’s in a little slump, let him alone. If someone booed me on my way into work one day because I forgot to fill the paper tray in the copier, that would be OK, but booing Sosa because he’s not knocking every ball out of the park?

All I can say is a real Cubs fan wouldn’t boo any Cub no matter how bad a slump he was in. You didn’t hear me booing Rod Beck or Rick Aguilera, and that took a lot of restraint on my part.

Lay off Sammy. Booing is bad for the player, bad for the team and therefore bad for the fan.
