Although the United States was not her native country, Lilian R. Davis came to see it as her home in many ways. “She was a delightful woman who people were just drawn to,” said her sister-in-law, Jo Anne Battista. “She found her niche everywhere, in her community, at her job, but especially within her family here, which she loved and who loved her so much.” Mrs. Davis, 55, of Wheaton, a technician at DuPage Medical Group in Glen Ellyn, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, in Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, after suffering a massive heart attack. A native of Scotland, Mrs. Davis spent most of her childhood with her family in Felixstowe, England. She attended nursing school in Ipswich, England, prior to moving to the United States at age 18. “She moved here with the hope of finding more opportunities,” said Battista. Mrs. Davis worked for a time for a dentist in Carol Stream, prior to becoming an office manager for Century 21 Auble Real Estate in Wheaton, where she was employed for 10 years. In the early 1990s, she married her husband, Jeffrey A. Davis; they were married 11 years before he died of cancer in 2002. “She took such good care of him,” said Battista. “She cared for him and stayed by his side the whole time he was sick.” More than a year ago, Mrs. Davis began working as a technician in the diagnostic imaging department at DuPage Medical Group, where co-workers say her cheerful disposition and cooperative spirit endeared her to the doctors and staff. “She was a hard worker and always smiling,” said Bernie Mudra, a department supervisor. “She never let me down, whenever I needed her to come in early or to cover for somebody else.” A 20-year Wheaton resident, Mrs. Davis also enjoyed gardening and caring for her dog, Heidi. She is survived by two brothers, William and Edward Macrae; and two stepchildren, Jason Davis and Kellie Davis. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton.
