Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I want to thank Larry Brown for saying what so many of us old-time NBA followers have been grousing about for years: “Shooting [in the NBA] is a lost art.” How true.

Team play in the NBA is also a lost art, as is unselfish play. There are some workhorses out there who come to play every day and try to lead their teams.

But with so many first- and second-year college players and now the influx of high school players, their skills and mental discipline are not up to NBA standards and the game has deteriorated badly, as shown by our recent Olympic and pre-Olympic performances.

I long for the days of Michael Jordan, Bobby Jones, John Havlicek, Rick Barry, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain . . . I could go on and on.

I appreciate Larry Brown staying around and trying to bring a better class of player up in the league. We, the paying attendees, deserve a better product.
