The Cubs and White Sox have both had players suspended for arguing with umpires this year. In a few of these instances the umpires were clearly wrong: Kerry Wood was suspended for five games and Ozzie Guillen was suspended for two games and then two more for calling umpire Hunter Wendelstedt a liar.
Because of these ridiculous actions by Major League Baseball, Cubs and Sox fans should boycott MLB’s nationally televised games on ESPN and the Fox network. It’s the best way to let the thugs who govern MLB know that Chicago fans are not happy with some of these heavy-handed suspensions. It may not be much and might only cause a small blip in television ratings, but at least it will send a message.
People watch baseball to see the players and managers, not the umpires. Umpires need to control the game, but Wendelstedt’s demeanor from the onset of Guillen’s argument was disrespectful and belligerent.
