This is regarding “`Replacement child’ a labor of love and grief; Having a baby after another dies often seen as way parents can recover from unimaginable loss” (Page 1, Aug. 13). The preferred term of bereaved parents who have children after the death of another child is “after child,” as in “a child born after the death of his or her sibling.” The term “replacement child” is offensive not only to the child conceived after a sibling died, but it also belittles the memory of deceased children.
