Philadelphia Eagles running back Correll Buckhalter will require season-ending surgery to repair the patellar tendon in his right knee that was torn in the first quarter of Friday night’s preseason victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

Buckhalter, a fourth-year veteran, underwent an MRI Saturday that confirmed the extent of injury.

On the first play of the Eagles’ second possession, Buckhalter took a handoff, made a cut, and before being touched, crumbled to the turf. He was eventually carted off the field.

“It’s sad to see. Correll came in in great shape,” coach Andy Reid said. “It was a crazy one where no one hit him–the thing went out.”

Big hurts

Colts wide receiver Troy Walters broke his left arm on the first series of Saturday night’s 31-7 loss to the Jets and may miss the rest of the season.

Running back Travis Henry left the Bills’ game against the Titans after 10 minutes with bruised ribs. Backup Willis McGahee came on to rush for 28 yards on 11 carries, but the Titans won 16-15 on Joe Nedney’s 22-yard field goal as time expired.

Quarterback Aaron Brooks tweaked his strained right thigh and hobbled off the field in the second quarter of the Saints’ 19-14 loss at Green Bay.
