The makers of the James Bond films may be having a hard time finding the next superspy, but apparently not enough to hire a gay actor for the part.

Rupert Everett, who starred in “My Best Friend’s Wedding” with Julia Roberts and “The Next Best Thing” with Madonna, said he’ll never wear Bond’s tux because he is gay.

“You know why not,” he told Britain’s Daily Mirror. “The producers would sooner drive nails into their eyes.”

Coming out has cost him films, he said, including the lead in “About a Boy” that eventually went to Hugh Grant. But he has no regrets, he told Weekend magazine. “I do not want to sit around in some gloomy place and be with someone and hope he wouldn’t call the papers.

“That’s such a boring life. I wanted to go to discos.”
