Orland Park’s Planning and Economic Development Committee this week approved recommendations for two large retail developments.

Plans for a 115-acre development includes a 148,000-square-foot Costco Wholesale at 159th Street and Ravinia Avenue, a 6-acre commercial parcel on the southeast corner of 159th and Ravinia, and 70 acres with about four units per acre of residential development.

As a condition of approval, Costco must agree to put in a westbound right turn lane, extend 165th Street west to 104th Avenue and add an 8-foot-wide bike path on the west side of Ravinia.

The committee also approved and sent to the full Village Board a 66-acre mixed-use development called Orland Crossing at the northeast corner of 143rd Street and La Grange Road. Proposed by Evanston-based Davis Street Land Co., Orland Crossing would include retail and office space and about 80 houses in the first 42 acres of the development, with additional development to be added later on 24 more acres.

As part of the project, 142nd Street would be extended to Humphrey Drive to ease the traffic flow in the area. Access to the retail center would be available from 143rd or an entrance at 142nd and La Grange.

The Village Board could vote on both proposals Sept. 7.
