In a move designed to improve customer service, the DuPage County Department of Economic Development and Planning announced Tuesday that it has implemented an “express line” for residents to pick up and pay for building permits.
All customers were served on a first-come, first-served basis, but now those waiting in line are directed to a separate counter where the county telephone staff has been cross-trained to accept payments and issue permits. Officials said some residents seeking permits used to get stuck behind developers seeking a stack of permits.
“Simply picking up a permit should not take an hour or longer, which was quite often the case,” said Kyle Gilgis (R-Downers Grove), chairwoman of the county’s Development Committee. “Now residents who simply need to pick up a permit can come into our office, pick up their permit and be on their way in a matter of minutes.”
Earlier this year, the county began accepting credit card payments for services and permitting fees.
