The Culinary Studio in Marshall Field’s State Street store soon will have some friendly competition: Coinciding with its Culinary Week of events, Sept. 7-11, Field’s will launch Culinary Studios at five of its area stores: Water Tower Place, Northbrook Court, Oakbrook Center, Old Or-chard Shopping Center in Skokie and Woodfield Shop-ping Center in Schaumburg.

At least during Culinary Week, State Street will remain king, given the high-profile chefs presenting events there. The lineup includes Gale Gand demonstrating fall pastries (noon Sept. 8, $25); a cooking demo followed by dinner in the Walnut Room with Tyler Florence (5:30 p.m. Sept. 9; $100); and Rick Bayless, who will lead an amateur Iron Chef Competition that enlists members of the audience (11 a.m. Sept. 11; free). Reservations are required for the Gand and Florence events; call 800-265-2665.

And a note for fellow carbophiles: The Oakbrook Field’s is adding La Brea Bakery to its food options in September.
