Your stories regarding John Kerry’s Silver Star will, I hope, put the nails in the coffin of the attempt by President Bush’s re-election campaign to smear Kerry’s military service record. If the Swift Boat Losers for Truth want to quibble over details, that’s their right, but it is no longer news.
A more interesting angle to all this is that the current commander in chief of the American military, George W. Bush, has allowed the post hoc bashing of a man who served honorably and bravely during a war 30 years ago and in fact appears to have encouraged that bashing. His actions are disrespectful not only to Kerry and his fellow Vietnam vets, but to the men and women serving under his command today.
Kerry has demonstrated strength, loyalty, honor and bravery in combat and in his anti-war stance at a time when that was an unpopular and even dangerous undertaking. These are qualities that Bush has not displayed in the past or the present. Family values be damned–the right moral choice is clear.
