Marie Kenney, nee Weiland, 100, of Wheeling and formerly of Evanston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, in the loving care of the staff at Addolorata Villa in Wheeling, where she resided since 1990. Marie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 32 years, Roy Henry Kenney; 11 of her 12 siblings; two sons-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. Marie is survived by her nine children, Mary Boudart (the late Eugene), Nancy Sassan (the late Jack), James Kenney, Lois (Shellie) Williamson, Margaret McRaith, Richard Kenney, Kathleen (David) Depp, Diane (John) McCormick and Paul Kenney. She also leaves 32 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; fond sister, Teresa Dieter of Cincinatio, OH and sister-in-law, Mary Weiland of Park Ridge; and many loving nieces and nephews. Marie was born in Evanston on Nov. 11, 1903, one of John and Margaret, nee Karthieser, Weiland’s 13 children. Marie graduated from St. Nicholas School in Evanston and assumed the bookkeeper responsibility at her father’s flower shop on Sherman Avenue in Evanston. Later she was also the bookkeeper for her brothers, Albert in Evanston and Henry in Highland Park. She retired in 1988 after 75 years in the florist business, with her service recognized by the Floral Telegraph Association (FTD), which, coincidentally, was founded many years earlier by florists including her father. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Addolorata Villa Foundation, 555 McHenry Road, Wheeling, IL 60090 or the Sinsinawa Dominicans, 585 County Road Z, Sinsinawa, WI 53824 would be appreciated. Visitation on Saturday, Aug. 28 at 9:30 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., at Addolorata Villa Chapel, 555 McHenry Rd. (2 blocks north of Dundee Rd.), Wheeling. Interment to follow at Techny Cemetery, Waukegan Road, Techny, IL. Arrangements were entrusted to Kolssak Funeral Home, Wheeling, 847-537-6600 .
