Conservative Democrats backing President Bush, led by Sen. Zell Miller (D-Ga.), are boasting of more than 3,400 supporters nationwide and claim their numbers are growing.

Miller, a former Georgia governor, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at next week’s Republican National Convention in New York City. Miller has been increasingly outspoken in his support for Bush as the presidential campaign intensified throughout the year.

“We are all Democrats, and we all agree these times demand a president that provides steady, consistent leadership in changing and challenging times,” Miller said in a statement distributed by the Bush campaign. “And that man is President George W. Bush.”

The Bush campaign said its “Democrats for Bush” group counts more than 400 leadership team members and 3,000 grassroots supporters.
