In last week’s “Other Views” it was suggested that Mark McGwire should not be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame because his career batting average is too low and his career strikeouts are too high. The writer failed to mention some other important statistics pertaining to McGwire’s career. His career on-base percentage was .394 and his career slugging percentage was .588. This totals up to a very good .982 career on-base-plus-slugging average.

The writer also claimed McGwire could not field his position. His career fielding percentage was .993, to go along with 583 home runs, 1,167 runs scored and 1,414 career RBIs.
