Paul Haas, formerly of Chicago, died August 13, 2004 in Poway, CA, a few days short of his 88th birthday. Mr. Haas came to the United States from Germany in 1937, and after serving in the U.S. Army as an orthotist, worked in the field of orthotics for almost 50 years, retiring in 1980, and moving to Rancho Bernardo, CA, with his wife of 56 years, Mildred who predeceased him in 2001. He founded Acme Orthotics which became Acme Orthotics and Prosthetics Laboratories in 1986, in partnership with Michael Lewis. Mr. Haas was a member of Ner Tamid Synagogue and lived most recently at Seacrest Village, Poway, CA. Surviving members of his family are three nieces and a nephew-Dr. Leslie Koelsch, San Francisco, Ellen Levine, Newton Centre, MA, Ellen Winchmann, Staten Island and Joel Rubin, Brooklyn, New York. Donations in his memory may be made to the Ner Tamid Building Fund or Seacrest Village, both of Poway, CA. Services were August 19, 2004 at the Poway-Pomerado Mortuary. Burial at Dearborn Park Cemetery in Poway.
