The decision by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Trenton, N.J., to deny an 8-year-old the sacrament of Communion (“Catholic diocese rules against girl’s wheat-free Communion,” News, Aug. 20) is simply indefensible. Does anyone seriously doubt that if one of the Apostles had suffered from celiac sprue disease, Jesus would have had a rice cake on hand at the Last Supper?
