William Edward Maples, a longtime resident of Chicago and former auditor in the Cook County Treasurer’s Office, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning, July 30, 2004, in the hospice unit in Aventura Hospital in Miami, FL, after struggling with deteriorating health caused from a 30 year battle with diabetes. He leaves his life partner of many years, Louis Hershfang; a son, Mark Maples; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Fisher; a daughter, Amy Wiley; a son-in-law, Robert Wiley; two granddaughters, Sage and Sienna Wiley; a brother, Richard Maples; and a sister, Linda Carter.
