Iowa’s Kinnick Stadium will open its 75th season Saturday with a retro look.

Iowa and Kent will be wearing throwback uniforms for the season opener for both teams. The Hawkeyes will

have the look of the famed 1939 “Ironmen” who feature Heisman Trophy winner Nile Kinnick.

Iowa will wear old gold helmets, black jerseys with old gold numbers and white pants with black and gold piping.

Kent will wear white jerseys with gold pants.

The field will be lined like it was when Kinnick led Iowa to a 6-1-1 record and won the Tribune Silver Football. The

Iowa band and cheerleaders also will be dressed in 1930s costumes, as will the referees, ball boys and chain gang.

After the game, the 109 uniforms will be sent to fans who paid $500 a set. They sold out in just two weeks.
