During the 1972 presidential campaign between President Richard Nixon and his Democratic challenger, Sen. George McGovern, the views of Rolling Meadows resident Richard Johnson became a hot topic. Mr. Johnson and his family were picked by Washington-based National Public Affairs Center for Television to represent middle-class Americans in two documentaries for public television. Mr. Johnson, 75, a former sales executive, died of complications of a stroke Tuesday, Aug. 31, in Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights. He was described by his son, Richard, as kind and outgoing. For 25 years, Mr. Johnson worked as a sales executive for the National Steel Co. of Evanston. He later took a job at Dominick’s in Rolling Meadows, where he worked for 13 years until retiring in May. He was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Other survivors include three daughters, Laurie Gregorio, Jean Gallo and Nancy Perryman; and 12 grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday in Meadows Funeral Home, 3615 Kirchoff Rd., Rolling Meadows. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Lutheran Church, 3201 Meadow Drive, Rolling Meadows.
