I want to salute the governor for finally stepping up to the plate with a new tollway plan. The rebuilding and expansion of the system is long overdue.
He is correct in calling the tollway system an “economic engine.”
All engines eventually need updating and reworking.
I would caution him to avoid attempting to shortchange the project by promising not to raise tolls for everyone.
This aspect of the plan is probably a fantasy.
A modest increase in tolls for I-PASS users (my wife and I both subscribe) would not hurt anyone.
Raising I-PASS tolls to 50 cents across the board while doubling the cost to non-subscribers seems slightly more realistic.
I look forward to the extension of Interstate Highway 355 from Bolingbrook to New Lenox.
It will improve the quality of life for thousands.
