Bryan Porter and his Rolling Meadows defensive teammates had one goal in mind when they faced Fremd on Friday night.
“We felt that if we got four turnovers, we would have a very good chance to win,” Porter said.
The host Mustangs almost doubled their hopes by intercepting seven passes en route to a 27-21 non-conference victory.
Porter, who also plays quarterback for Rolling Meadows (2-0), picked off two of Vikings quarterback Scott Tolzien’s passes. George Louckes also picked off two Tolzien throws and returned one 37 yards for a touchdown.
“This was probably the best game I’ve played,” Louckes said.
Trailing 14-0, Fremd (1-1) got a 57-yard touchdown run by Cleo Walker (11 carries, 96 yards) in the second quarter. But Walker suffered an ankle injury on the following possession and sat out the rest of the game.
